SHRM Student Chapters in New York (A-M)

Since the “Empire State” is situated in the northeastern Mid-Atlantic region as the third most populous and seventh most densely populated state with the single most populous city in the United States, it is no surprise that there is a multitude of Society for Human Resource Management student chapters in New York. As one of the national centers for finance and culture as a gateway for immigration, New York is home to many of the nation’s highest ranked universities with student chapters for the SHRM.

With over 250,000 members worldwide, the SHRM is the largest association dedicated to serving the unique educational and professional needs of HR professionals. The following are the first half (A-M) of student chapters for the SHRM that can help students learn more in-depth managerial skills outside of the classroom and build networking connections throughout New York.

Adelphi University

As Long Island’s private co-educational institution within just 45 minutes from New York City, Adelphi University is currently ranked as the 152nd best college and 33rd top college for veterans in the nation by the U.S. News and World Report. Within the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business, graduate students can pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Management with a specialization in Human Resource Management or an Advanced Certificate in Human Resource Management. The Adelphi Student SHRM Chapter also sponsors guest speakers, holds workshops, and participates in the annual Long Island SHRM Conference.

Currently ranked as the 30th best college and 3rd top value school in the North by the U.S. News and World Report, Alfred University is a student-centered comprehensive private institution with just over 2,000 students. Situated in a 17-story urban center in downtown Manhattan as one of the public institutions within the City University of New York (CUNY) system, Baruch College is ranked as the 22nd best college and 4th top public school in the North by the U.S. News and World Report. Encompassing 887 acres of nature preserves in the suburb of Vestal within just 30 minutes from the winter sports paradise of Greek Peak, Binghamton University is ranked as the 97th best college and 44th top public school in the nation. As a private for-profit business institution that offers two and four-year degree programs, Bryant and Stratton College is based just outside of Buffalo with additional satellite locations throughout New York, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Virginia. For aspiring HR professionals, the college offers an Applied Associate of Science (AAS) in Human Resources Specialist as well as a Certificate in Human Resources Management. Capital Region Multi-Campus Chapter

For students at Siena College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, University of Albany, and Sage Colleges, the Capital Region Multi-Campus Chapter is designed to provide unique learning opportunities for college students throughout the Capital Region to explore the professional field of human resources. Along with monthly chapter meetings at a significantly reduced student rate, the chapter’s activities seek to train students on all aspects of the professional HR arena, including compensation and benefits, recruitment, staffing, affirmative action, and leadership for participation in the SHRM Case Competition.
