Bowie State University

Founded in 1865 as the oldest historically black college in Maryland and one of the ten oldest in the entire nation, Bowie State University is a comprehensive public student-centered institution in the midst of the country’s most exciting metropolitan areas of Washington, DC and Baltimore. While students can pursue a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Human Resources within the Department of Management, Marketing, and Public Administration, the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Human Services also offers a Master of Arts in Human Resource Development. In order to supplement classroom learning with real-world experiences, aspiring HR professionals are encouraged to join the Bowie State Student SHRM Chapter to network with leaders of local government agencies, non-profit organizations, corporations, educational institutions, and healthcare organizations for long-lasting business connections.

Community College of Baltimore County

With various campus locations throughout Baltimore County in Catonsville, Dundalk, Essex, Hunt Valley, Owing Mills, and Randallstown, the Community College of Baltimore County is an accredited two-year community college with more than 100 associate degree and certification programs for its more than 72,000 students. Aspiring HR professionals have the option of pursuing a Human Resources Management Certificate to take coursework in accounting, business, human resources, labor management relations, compensation administration, business communications, and employment law. Sponsored by the Chesapeake Human Resource Association, the CCBC Student SHRM Chapter also provides the opportunity for students to gain insight into the effective management of personnel, exchange theoretical academic perspectives through an open forum, and network with students of similar career interests in weekly meetings on Thursdays at 1 PM in BESS Room 318.

Frostburg State University

Less than an hour’s drive from the center of our nation’s capital in the suburban setting of Westminster as a comprehensive private institution, McDaniel College is currently ranked as the 126th best liberal arts college in the United States by the U.S. News and World Report. Within the Department of Graduate and Continuing Education, those interested in the human resources industry have the opportunity to pursue a Master of Science in Human Resources Development (HRD) that has been aligned with the curriculum guidelines established by the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) for excellence.
