SHRM Student Chapters in Colorado

Containing nearly three-fourths of the land area in the United States with an altitude over 10,000 feet, Colorado encompasses most of the Southern Rocky Mountains and the northeastern portion of the Colorado Plateau within the southwestern region of the nation. As the eighth most extensive state in the country, it is no surprise that the state is also packed full of Student SHRM Chapters. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest association that is strictly devoted to serving the needs of professionals in human resources and advancing the interests of the profession. Representing more than 250,000 members in over 140 countries all over the globe, the SHRM has more than 575 affiliated chapters. Student chapters are designed for aspiring HR professionals who can benefit from networking and learning opportunities to break into the field. The following are the Student SHRM Chapters that are located within the “Centennial State” to help students get on the right track to a fascinating career in Human Resource Management.

Chapman University – Colorado Springs

As a comprehensive private institution located on a campus in Colorado Springs with more than 45 majors for students to choose from, Chapman University is currently ranked as the 7th best college and 1st best up-and-coming school in the West. Within the George Argyros School of Business and Economics, students have the option to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration or Bachelor of Arts in Economics as well as a Master of Business Administration or Executive Master of Business Administration. Known for delivering a practice-based business education in one of the nation’s most dynamic business communities, the School also offers students the ability to engage within the Student SHRM Chapter to network with area HR professionals and join in workshop events to perfect their managerial skills.

Colorado Mesa University

Currently ranked as the 103rd best college in the West by Forbes magazine, Colorado Mesa University is a public institution situated on an 86-acre campus between the Rocky Mountains and high-desert canyons. The Department of Business offers students the chance to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) or Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Human Resource Management. All business students have the opportunity to join the local SHRM Student Chapter through a joint membership with the organization’s sponsors, the Western Colorado Human Resource Association. With the membership, student members are able to attend monthly luncheons for networking opportunities, access the SHRM website database for HR internship information, and participate in weekly meetings that are held each Thursday at 5 PM in ACB Room 217.

Colorado State University – Denver Center

Among the top 100 best buy colleges by Forbes magazine, Colorado State University – Denver Center is the Mile High connection to the top-tier public institution with some of the best business programs in the nation. In addition to the standard Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Executive MBA programs, the CSU Continuing Education Center Campus in downtown Denver also offers a unique Master of Education in Human Resource Studies for Organizational Learning, Performance, and Chance (OLPC). Graduate students are warmly welcome to join the CSU Denver Center Student Chapter of the SHRM, sponsored by the Colorado Human Resource Association, with annual membership dues of just $35. Students are given the chance to interact with organizational change leaders and become better acquainted with the field of human resource development.

Colorado State University

Located in the mid-sized city of Fort Collins at the base of the Rocky Mountains just one hour away from the metropolitan hub of Denver, Colorado State University is a public institution that is recognized as the 121st best college and 60th top public school in the nation by the U.S. News and World Report. The CSU College of Business offers a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Organization and Innovation Management as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Management Practice (MMP). Sponsored by the North Colorado Human Resource Association, the CSU SHRM Student Chapter offers student members the chance to attend bi-monthly meetings with HR professional guest speakers from 5:30 to 6:30 PM in Rockwell Room 172, gain experience through internships or job shadowing, and participate in the Southwest Regional HR Games competition.

Colorado State University – Pueblo

Located in Colorado Springs with satellite campuses in Denver, Westminster, and Aurora, Colorado Technical University is a private for-profit institution that has been fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. With a strong emphasis on STEM subject matters, the university is classified by the prestigious Carnegie Foundation as a doctoral research university. Within the CTU Department of Business and Management, aspiring HR professionals can earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Human Resource Management, Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management or a Doctor of Management in Organizational Development and Change. Situated in the Mile High capital city of Denver with satellite campuses in Northglenn and Greenwood Village, Metropolitan State University of Denver is a comprehensive public institution with more than 23,500 students. Affiliated with the Society for Human Resource Management, the Monfort College of Business is also home to the Management Club. The specific purpose of the SHRM Student Chapter is to increase managerial skills through professional events, community leadership, and networking with local or global business leaders.
